Parents as Leaders: Supporting Your Child with a Learning Disability

September 2, 2014 · 6:30 to 8:00 pm
Bristol Library · 5 High Street, Bristol · Meeting Room 3
Presentation by Michele Pierce Burns, Ramapo for Children

This workshop is for parents and caregivers of children with learning disabilities. It provides specific skills and ideas for supporting the success of children at home and school. Participants will learn: techniques for communicating with children who learn differently; strategies for preventing and reducing difficult behaviors, anticipating problems and reducing stress; skills and ideas for advocating effectively for their child's needs in school and in the community.

This free workshop is made possible through the generous funding of the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation. The Children's Library will be open during the workshop for children who are accompanied by an adult or older sibling.

Bristol will be FLAVOR'D in no time!

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT:

Flavor'd Food Fest is an event that focuses almost entirely around the concept of food! It will feature a tasting element from the culinary talents of Bristol restaurants/organizations as well as participating restaurants from the region and state, creating a cultural crockpot of Bristol and Connecticut flavors! Now that’s revolutionary!

A great part of the event is about celebrating Bristol food and culinary gems, but similar to how the Pop Up Piazza showed the possibility of a future bustling downtown, we’d like to similarly provide a one-day looking glass into the anticipated future food/restaurant culture downtown. We’re excited to pop up restaurant rows on September 13th!

Get ready, and stay hungry my friends!

TICKETS:
There will be no cost for admission to the event, rather, we will be selling food tickets for the tasting elements on a $1 to 1 ticket ratio. For example, if you pay $5 you will receive 5 food tickets. The Seared Ahi Tuna might run you 3 tickets, and the Coconut Cake 2 tickets, YUM!

HOW FLAVOR'D CAME ABOUT:

A few Bristol restaurateurs came together and felt there was a perception amongst some that Bristol doesn’t have places to eat.

But we don’t believe that, and we're gonna prove it as Flavor’d Food Fest will help show Bristol has many quality restaurants and places that specialize in some amazing items, and it’s our intention to allow them to be known to the world as well showcasing our neighboring CT restaurants!

WHEN WE'RE GOING TO ROCK YOUR TASTE BUDS:

Flavor’d Food Fest is scheduled to be held on Saturday, September 13, between 2 pm and 8:30 (rain date September 14) on Riverside Avenue Extension as well as parts of Depot Square, in downtown Bristol. This all day smorgasbord is expected to draw thousands of Flavor’d Food Fest goers from the region and state on event day, and will feature Bristol and CT restaurants, food vendors, food programming, live music, and more! Many more details will be released along the way, so stay tuned! “Are you ready to get FLAVOR’D!!”
