On Saturday, October 11 at 3:00 PM, BPL will welcome Bristol native, and Simpsons television series writer, Mike Reiss. Mike, who was a Bristol Public Library user in his school days, and is a major donor to the Friends of the Bristol Public Library, is visiting the library to attend a small dedication ceremony for the new first floor library Express Area. The new Express Area, is designed to support the growing use of digital technology in the community and will include cafe style seating, free WI-FI, tables with charging hubs and USB ports for mobile devices and will be a location inside the library where covered beverages will be permitted. The required furniture and re-furbishing of the first-floor lobby are made possible by Mike's generous support.

Although the Express Area will not be completed by October 11, the dedication ceremony will include the presentation of a plaque, the signing of Simpsons posters that will be part of the Express Area decor, a display board showing what the new furniture materials will look like, and refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Bristol Public Library. The public is welcome to attend the dedication at the library on 5 High Street in Bristol.

ZOMBIE ZONE SCARES UP SUPPORT FOR CHARITIES
Date: Saturday, October 11, 2014 (Event Views: 1,122)

The Pelletier Family of Bristol, CT has had their fair share of scares, namely those related to their youngest son, Andre’, being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the age of 11. Crohn’s disease, along with ulcerative colitis, are painful, debilitating, chronic digestive diseases impacting over 1.4 million American adults and children, with as many as 150,000 under the age of 18 including more than 16,500 individuals in Connecticut. Three years later, Andre’ is offering scares of a different variety. He and his friends and family are hosting the Zombie Zone, a local Haunted House attraction, to raise funds for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America and The Youth Rally.

Andre’ chose these two charities because he has benefitted from each organization’s summer camp programs. The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation offers Camp Oasis which enriches the lives of children (grades 3-12) with inflammatory bowel disease by providing them with a safe and supportive summer camp experience. This nationwide program serves 1,200 children each year. The Youth Rally offers a summer camp that provides a non-threatening environment for kids between the ages of 11 and 17 with any sort of bowel or bladder dysfunction.

The Zombie Zone runs Friday and Saturday nights in October through October 25 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. The attraction is recommended for anyone age seven or older and features friendly actors, animatronics, strobe & laser lights, and sound effects. The Zombie Zone is located at 341 Beths Avenue in Bristol. Admission is a minimum $3 donation. Additional funds will be raised through the sale of hot chocolate, apple cider, cookies & candy. Andre’ has a goal to surpass last year’s fundraising total of $700 and raise $1200 this year. According to Andre’, "Zombie Zone is something important; it isn't just another Haunted House. It is raising awareness and donations for non-profits that don't get the recognition nor funds they deserve."

ZOMBIE ZONE SCARES UP SUPPORT FOR CHARITIES
Date: Saturday, October 25, 2014 (Event Views: 1,164)

For more information on how to get involved with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America please visit www.cctakesteps.org or contact Mary Kate Doherty at 203-376-4336 or mkdoherty@ccfa.org.
