Date: Wednesday, August 05, 2015 (Event Views: 2,896)

The first Wednesday of every month - we will be opening our Studio doors from 6pm to 8pm to those that love to create with yarn, thread, sewing, fabric etc for our version of mental therapy :D

In a carefree non judge mental setting, bring your yarn projects and beverage of choice (keurig available) and we will sit around working on our projects and sharing what we will. Some people need to vent outside their own friends and families, some want to share silly jokes or an idea for a future project. Others want to talk about their love of yarn or why they can't accomplish a certain stitch. Let us all gather at the studio and have our love of crocheting, knitting, macrame, etc weave us into a loosely knit group that can come together and offer support in whatever manner is needed.

Event is free, however donations are gladly accepted! (To go toward the electricity/coffee)

Crocodile Club is Back!
Date: Friday, August 21, 2015 (Event Views: 2,001)

The Crocodile Club is Back Again!

The Crocodile Club is back again! The New England Carousel Museum, a non-profit treasure in the Connecticut community, is once again bringing back the annual dinner meeting at Lake Compounce, the oldest continuously operating amusement park in the country, on Friday, August 21, 2015. The Crocodile Club will celebrate its 134th reunion dinner with its unique gathering of individuals who put aside their political differences to celebrate this important part of history. As a special treat from our generous hosts, your ticket will give you free access to the entire Lake Compounce experience for the day. So, come alone or bring your family to enjoy the amusement park and a free meal in the picnic pavilion while you partake in the Crocodile experience with us. This year, the Crocodile lunch will be held in the Park Pavilion instead of the Ballroom.

The festivities will begin with the social hour at noon (when crocodile tears are shed.) with a beer and wine cash bar in the picnic pavilion. A lamb dinner will be provided combined with usual picnic fare and will commence promptly at 1:00 PM. During dinner, a lively program with guest speakers will follow. Remember, good speeches and bad jokes are limited to three minutes per person, and NO serious political speeches are allowed.

We are told by the Norton family that the “Crocodile Club’” was formed in 1875 when Gad Norton, who was a former legislator, and who also started the amusement park in 1846, decided to thank his colleagues in the State Legislature for their help in passing a statute that changed the town line between Bristol and Southington so as to put his farmhouse in Bristol. The reason for this request was so that he could vote in Bristol where he did all his trading and knew more people. Also, in the days of horses and buggies, old dirt roads, and tough winters, the three mile ride to Bristol was a lot easier than the six miles to Southington.

Never will you see and meet so many candidates from all sides in one place in such intimate surroundings, all having a good time kidding each other, with no serious politics allowed. That policy was dictated to the original group by host, Gad Norton himself, who said, “there will be no serious politics allowed, no post-mortems from the last legislative session, -- just pleasant
sociability, good fun, and good food.”

Tickets, available at the Carousel Museum, are $40 each. Stop in to purchase your ticket, call the Museum to put it on your credit card,.or mail to the Crocodile Club, c/o Carousel Museum, 95 Riverside Ave, Bristol, CT 06010 . The dinner registration form can be downloaded from the Carousel Museum website. www.thecarouselmuseum.org

You must have your ticket with you in order to get fed. For more information contact the New England Carousel Museum, 95 Riverside Avenue, Bristol, CT 06010. 860 585-5411.

7th Annual Bryon's Run/Walk/Stroll
Date: Sunday, August 23, 2015 (Event Views: 1,647)

Join us for the fun on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the 7th Annual Bryon’s Run/Walk/Stroll. This is a fundraiser to benefit an amazing 9 year old boy and family that lives in Bristol and has been fighting an inoperable brain tumor. Bryon Schiffres and his family’s life was changed forever in Jan. 2009 when the brain tumor which was 1/3 the size of his brain mass was diagnosed.

Bryon is such a happy and loving boy but lives with the challenges of being handicapped for the rest of his life. As a friend of his mom, I started this fundraiser 7 years ago wanting to help with the medical costs and this was the only way I thought could. As a friend and race director it is nice to see how they use the profits from the events. For example, getting a much needed handicap van to transport Bryon to chemo appointments and school. Now the family is in the process of renovating their home to make it wheelchair accessible.

This is a family fun event being held at the Dennis N. Malone Aquatic Center at 9:30 a.m. with pre-registration starting at 8:00 a.m. There will be a fun kids run and many, many great raffles to win. To name a few raffles: Story Land, Stone Age Rock Gym, Rock Cat tickets, Ct. Beardsley Zoo, Theatre Work, Thomas Hooker Brewery.
