Take Care Tuesdays – Zumba with Marisa   (21,149 Views)

Take Care Tuesdays – Zumba with Marisa

May 8 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

Zumba instructor extraordinaire Marisa leads the kick off events to Take Care Tuesday – a wellness series presented by The New England Carousel Museum. Tuesday’s from 9:30-10:30 starting April 3 – May 29 (no class April 10).

Marisa Murray, licensed ZUMBA Fitness Instructor, was born to a ballerina mother in Indonesia. Though dance was in her blood, Marisa found that ballet was not for her. She began her journey in search of the dance style that best fit her which ultimately led to Zumba. Zumba classes at Valley Ballet & Dance Fitness fulfilled her passion for dance while also benefitting her health benefits in a fun and exciting way. Encouraged by others to become an instructor, Marisa found her calling.

With a BA from University of Hartford in Graphic Design and an artistic talent Marisa found Zumba instruction to be a creative outlet. Marisa’s Zumba class features energetic creative dance choreography with a focus on total fitness.

1 class for $10 or register for the entire session and get 1 class FREE! https://www.thecarouselmuseum.org/book-online

TIME: 1:00 PM
PLACE: Manross Memorial Library
260 Central Street
Forestville, CT

Special event co-sponsored by the American Clock & Watch Museum: Behind the story of the clock and watch industry’s success, lies a tragic story of employee sacrifice. For a time, little was known about the toxic working conditions of the young women in the dial painting industry. Fortunately, their story was eventually heard. Unfortunately, many of them did not live to see that day. Their story is one of opportunity, broken trust, and the search for truth. Please visit or call the library to register in advance.

Ella May Wiggins & The Songs of the American Labor Movement  (21,758 Views)

Music, poetry and ironic humor were hallmarks of the early American labor movement. Ella May’s music inspired folk singers like Peter Seeger and Woody Guthrie and influenced the fabled Little Red Songbook of the Industrial Workers of the World (“Wobblies”).

Ramadan begins this year in mid-May and May 21st is the United Nations World Day of Cultural Diversity, Dialogue and Development. This date was selected to be Bristol’s commemoration of this worldwide event. Promote a guided self-care system which seeks to integrate conventional, allopathic medicine with several alternative disciplines  (20,277 Views)

May 24 and May 26, 2018 is an opportunity to meet Dr. Steve Piechota and have a free consultation at Medical Arts Health & Nutrition Center, 140 Pine Street, Bristol CT; phone: 860-584-5071.
Dr. Stephen Piechota, Pharm D., CNC, received his B.S. from University of Connecticut School of Pharmacology, and his Doctorate of Clinical Therapeutics Degree from Idaho State University. He practiced pharmaceutical medicine for 40 years before he retired from that profession to pursue his dream of bringing real healthcare and enlightenment to his fellow-man. To further his knowledge in the art of holistic healing, Dr. Steve has taken comprehensive training in clinical nutrition and naturopathic medicine, as well as read and studied countless books on the subject. He is fervent in his belief in serving the highest of principles, truth and God, and is totally dedicated to provide healthcare to his fellow-man.
Dr. Steve, as his patients like to call him, is the creator of the Medical Arts Health & Nutrition Centers, and the concept known as "Via Nova". Via Nova literally means "A New Way", and in this case, a new way to better health. We promote a guided self-care system which seeks to integrate conventional, allopathic medicine with several alternative disciplines, e.g.: clinical nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, ayurvedic and oriental medicine.

Espionage, Sabotage and Subversion: The War at home during World War One   (20,138 Views)

Espionage, Sabotage and Subversion: The War at home during World War One

May 24 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

A PRESENTATION BY TOM HOGAN
In 1914 Americans were hoping to stay out of WWI but Germany was already planning an attack upon the United States. It was a covert campaign of spying, sabotage and subversion that would touch every corner of the United States, including Connecticut.

The history of our involvement in World War One evokes images of Dough Boys fighting in the muddy battlefields of France. But there was another war that happened here. As huge European armies mobilized in the summer of 1914, many Americans believes that a vast ocean and a powerful Navy would keep us out of the war.

The battle in the shadows was first joined by a handful of municipal police officers but it would eventually involve the Army, federal officials and tens of thousands of average Americans. Tom Hogan has had a keen interest in military history for over 40 years. His grandfather worked in Army Intelligence during World War 1.

Join us for this presentation on May 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bristol Historical Society.
