BRING YOUR OLD RUNNING SHOES TO THE RACE AND DONATE THEM

With the horrific natural disasters in Haiti and in Chile people are in immediate need of the most basic necessities, like food, water AND SHOES.  Our country has responded well.   With that said, we are pleased to partner this year with Soles4Souls a nonprofit organization that collects shoes from warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you.

Soles4Souls distributes these shoes, free of charge to people in need around the world.  Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away over 7 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes (currently distributing one pair every 9 seconds).  The shoes have been distributed in 125 countries, including Haiti, Kenya, Nepal and the Unites States.

On Race Day we will be collecting foot wear-  please considerbrining your old running shoes to donate them.

Also during the Weeks of March 23rd to April 3rd please drop off your “gently worn” footwear at the UPS Store located at 123 Farmington Ave, Bristol Farmington Ave.   Changing the World one Pair at a Time

The Race Beneficiary

Saint Vincent DePaul Society is a non-profit organization that plays a vital role in our community by providing shelter, food, counseling and referral services with dignity for people in need.  They operate a 25 bed homeless shelter, a 10 family Women with Children Transitional Center and a 13 unit transitional living center for single men.

Last years 7th Annual Shamrock Run & Walk was a huge success which was evidenced by the committee presenting a check for $11,000 to the shelter and hosting over 1500 athletes.  Not only was it a great fundraising event for the shelter it helped raise awareness within the community of the good work being done for those less fortunate.  Since the race inception in 2003 the event has raised over $80,000 for the shelter.

An Irish Blessing

May you be poor in misfortune,
rich in blessings,
slow to make enemies,
quick to make friends,
but rich or poor,
quick or slow,
may you know nothing but happiness
from this day forward.
